Codeine linctus is classified as a P medicine under the Medicines Act 1968 and the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 which allows it to be sold only under a pharmacist’s supervision, by a pharmacy, without prescription. The medicine, occasionally used for a dry cough, is high risk because of known problems associated with its misuse, abuse or overuse.
The GPhC along with CGL, who provide substance misuse interventions in Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire are to run this one hour session.
Lisa McCreesh and Helen Jackson from the GPhC will be raising awareness and sharing learnings gained from intelligence led inspections in Blackburn, and CGL (speaker to be confirmed) will be talking about the impact that drug misuse, abuse and addiction can have on people’s lives.
